Artist Statement

Since graduating from the University of Arizona in 2002 the main focus of my artistic endeavors has been the production of metal sculpture. This journey has been an interesting one and metal is still the medium most familiar to me. Steel is my ink, bronze is my paint, copper, silver and gold are the tones of my singing voice. In 2016 I began making steel sculptures filed with fire, and these were incorporated at performances like the All Souls Procession with Cirque Roots igniting the flames. Inspiration led me to build the WeRobot sculpture making machine, which produces spherical steel sculptures. Lighting and illumination was a big part of this project, and it got me thinking more and more about Light as an art medium.

These days I cant stop thinking about light. Rainbows, lasers and holograms, kaleidoscopes and crystal balls. Every way to warp and change and play with Light gets my attention. My latest sculpture, the Merkaba Molecule is on one hand a metal sculpture, pregnant with symbolism with it's roots in Sacred Geometry. As an object, it is an interesting scupture. But also it is an opportunity to play with Light as an art form. And if successful, to share my amazement and sense of wonder.
